AC repair options

Many people don’t know this but there are normally a few different ways to repair an air conditioner. It all depends on what category the AC repair falls into. There are simple inexpensive components on your air conditioner that can fail, in this case, there are no options. For example, if your compositor fails on your air conditioner the only fix is to replace it for about $200. The other type of AC repair is when major expensive components fail, in this scenario, there are going to be options. For example, if your evap coil goes out it might be under warranty lowering the AC repair cost, or it might no longer be manufactured where we have to replace the whole air handler, or if you want to kick the ball down the road for another 6 months we can add leak seal. When it comes to major components failing you typically end up with 3 options. Cheap 6-month fix, replace the major component or replace the system but all must be balanced out

  • The short-term fix will probably ruin your system but if the air conditioner is on its last leg, this might be a good option to get every last goody out of it.  It can also buy you a little time to gather funds for the long-term solution.
  • Replacing the major component makes the most sense if your air conditioner is a newer system.  If it’s an older AC system you may not want this option because your whole system could fail the year and you wouldn’t get your money’s worth from this repair.
  • Lastly, you can replace your entire air conditioner. This is a good solution if your air conditioner is older and doesn’t have many years left in it. That way you don’t double invest in an AC repair only to spend a lot of money to replace it.

Commercial AC Repair San Antonio

One of the biggest problems most commercial facility managers face in San Antonio is finding a good HVAC contractor. What tends to happen is many commercial AC companies do a good job first few AC repairs then they stop properly diagnosing and repairing the commercial air conditioner. You think they are doing their job but their hope is the system will lay down and they’ll get a commercial RTU replacement. This is why many commercial AC companies tamper with a system or just not do the work. We do not operate this way. Check a few things before you call for an AC repair

There are a few DIY things you can do that might fix your air conditioning problem without the need to call an AC repair company. By checking these four things because getting a service company to your home could save you time and hundreds of dollars. These are a few simple steps that anyone can follow. First, start with your air filter, then move to your outdoor AC unit, then check your thermostat, then take a look at your drain line.

  • Check your filters
  • Clean the outdoor AC unit
  • Check your thermostat
  • Clean the drain line

The first thing to look at if your home is not cooling and heating correctly is your air filter. If your filter is dirty change it and sees if that helped. Most people don’t know how important it is to change their filters on a routine basis. One of the primary jobs of an AC system is to distribute air throughout your home. If the filter is too dirty it can no longer distribute the air correctly. This makes the air conditioner work harder and longer to cool your home. Due to the extra demand being put on the air conditioner it can no longer cool your home correctly. In some cases, it can start breaking components in your AC. I recommend changing your filters out every 45 days or if you have pets to do it every 30 days.

Another thing you can look at is your outdoor AC unit. If it is dirty or has a lot of vegetation growing on it, you are going to want to clean it off. The way your AC unit cools is by converting the outdoor temperature into cold air. It does this by blowing air through the outdoor coils. If these coils are dirty, they can no longer exchange the outdoor temperature into cool air. It’s always a good practice to clean our outdoor AC unit a few times a year.

It is very normal for a thermostat to be the cause of an air conditioner not working. There are a few things you can check to rule out that it’s not your thermostat. The first thing I would check is if the batteries are still good. After that, I would check if it is set for heating or cooling. For a lot of basic thermostats, you have to manually change them from heating to cooling. It is always a good practice to check your thermostat before calling your AC repair guy.

The last thing I would look at is your drain line. In all-new AC systems it is required by code to install drain line safety switches. Safety switches are designed to keep your drain pan from overflowing and creating water damage to your home. So when your drain pan gets full the safety switch turns off your air conditioner until the water in the drain pan goes down. A clogged drain line could cause this problem. The way you can fix this is by putting bleach or vinegar in your drain pan to clean out the PVC drain. You can try this before you call your repair guy and see if cleaning your drain line fixes the problem.

With this approach our customers love us because our we take care of our customer, unlike other companies who try to sell you something.

The big problem we are trying to fix

There is a problem in the air conditioning industry that most people don’t know exists. The problem that lease to a lot of issues in our industry is the fact that it is a seasonal business. What this mean is there is a lot of work in the summer but very little work in the winter. This leads to a price gouging, staffing problems, and bad marketing.

  • If there is a lot of work in the summer and little to no work in the winter what is an easy way to make up the difference. You might have guessed it, charge a lot in the summer. Most companies in San Antonio are mismanage to the point the have to charge you an arm and a leg to make it through the winter. Better managed AC repair companies, like us, don’t have to change our customers outrageous prices. We can charge a customers a fair price all year around because we know how to properly handle the winter months when there is little work.
  • The staffing problem we see is lots of work in the summer and none in the winter. The big questions is, what do you do with everyone in the winter? This leads us to a lot of bad business models. Many companies in San Antonio use a commission model to solve this problem. They pay their tech for was the sell, repair, and replace for you. You can clearly see there is a conflict in instruct. A tech can make a living on a $150 AC repair, they need a $1000 AC repair to make a commission. The tech has to up sell you and pressure you to make a decision on the spot just to they can make a living. We do not allow this in our company, everyone is either on a salary or hourly, no commission allowed. Our job is to provided the best AC repair service without selling you anything or pressuring you into a sell. This really starts separating us from the average air conditioner company in San Antonio.
  • The last problem is every company treats the summer like a land grab. Most companies spend huge amounts of money on advertising to make sure they get your call so they can upsell you on air conditioner repairs and replacements. By the time that average AC company pull up to your door step, they spent around $200 just to pull into your driveway. If all you are needing is a simple AC repair that would normally only cost $120, how is this company going to afford that? The sort answer is they can’t. If it cost the company $200 in advertising and the tech gets paid with commissions, you can see where this is going. We are very different for this business model. We work a lot more in like like a “good old boy” model, be honest and straight forward providing the best workmanship possible.
